Convergence Insufficiency

 

Convergence insufficiency is a common problem that make is hard to cross the eyes. The can cause eye fatigue, headache, double vision, or reading difficulties. Treatment is indicated only if the patient is symptomatic. Fortunately, convergence insufficiency can often be improved with simple at-home eye crossing exercises. However, computerized therapy or in-person therapy are good options for some patients.

At home “Pencil Push-Up” exercises are described below.

 
 

PENCIL PUSH-UP AT HOME EYE CROSSING EXERCISES

Step1:
Hold a pencil on front of you at arm's length. The pencil should be vertically.
The pencil should be directly in front of your nose, with the tip just below eye level.


Step 2:
Move the pencil slowly toward your nose as you concentrate and focus on the point.
Once you notice that you see two pencils rather than one back up until it becomes only one again.


Step 3:
Continue to look at the pencil for 10 consecutive seconds.


Step 4:
Repeat above instructions for a total of at least 10 Push-Ups.



When this is done correctly, your eyes should feel fatigued for a brief time after the exercises.
